Figures are typical seasonal averages for the region and may vary year to year — pack light layers for winter mornings/evenings.

Summer builds steadily from warm in March to genuinely punishing by May, when peak-of-day heat and humidity combine ahead of the monsoon. Locals shift their schedules around it — errands and outdoor plans cluster in early morning or after sunset, with air-conditioned interiors the default for the middle of the day.

The southwest monsoon brings sustained, sometimes heavy rainfall, amplified locally by the Tapi River, which has flooded parts of the city in past years during intense spells. Streets turn lush and green, and the rain itself is often a relief after summer — but pack for it, and keep travel plans flexible around the heaviest weeks.

The most comfortable stretch of the year — dry, sunny, and cool enough for light layers in the mornings and evenings. It also happens to line up with the tail end of Navratri, Diwali, Chandni Padva and Uttarayan, making it the clear best window for a first visit.
